SYNOPSIS Long
ago, the Tiergarten (Animal Garden) was the hunting reserve of the
princes-electors. Converted to a park at the start of the 18th century,
with Joseph Lenné’s planning, it became the green belt
of “Big Berlin” of the 1920s. During the division of the
city, West-Berlin wanted to promote this park as an area that symbolised
the richness of culture present in the city. In 1987 as part of an
architectural exhibition (IBA Berlin), prototype houses were built
(Baumhauser). Today they are used as social housing as well as a workplace.
With the tumbling of the wall was launched the building site of the
Reichstag at one of the far ends of the park. A portrait of the Animal
Park today: bicycles, idlers, dealers, revellers, flightiness, a veritable “Love
Parade”…. A journey to the heart of Berliner territory
- one of the true symbols of today’s reunified Germany. Directed
