SYNOPSIS The oasis of Ksar Ghilane is the departure or arrival point of several desert itineraries. It is the northernmost in Tunisia, and runs along the Grand Erg Oriental and its dunes. The Ghilane fort, a former French barracks, is approached by a rocky track and surrounded by a palm grove planted at the beginning of the 1950s. This curtain of greenery is fed by a spring after which the fort is named. Today, Ksar Ghilane provides a welcome halt for the Bedouins who come to water their herds and the tourists who have spent the day in the desert. The hot spring 34° - invites bathers in under the patchy shade of the trees. The constantly renewed water is used for the irrigation of the oasis, where date palms and alfalfa for the animals are cultivated. Kaleidoscope describes the place and listens to the inhabitants and their perception of everyday life.
