SYNOPSIS Kaleidoscope follows in the footsteps of Robert Flaherty, father of the dramatized documentary and of "Man of Aran" (1934). The three Aran Isles Inishmore, Inishmaan and Inisheer - are situated off the west coast of Ireland. They offer an austere landscape of dry stonewalls, spectacular coastal views, monuments of early Christianity and several prehistoric forts. The inhabitants of Aran speak Gaelic and the folklore and culture of traditional Ireland still populate their songs and tales. They earn a living mainly from fishing, as hard now as it ever was, and the farmers cultivate their land in very hostile conditions. Tourism has now improved the condition of these islanders. Tradition and modernity mingle in a unique way. Inishmaan, one of the most unusual places in the world is the most untouched of the three islands. Only 220 people live there, with 5 cars and... one pub.
