SYNOPSIS On the shores of the Oman sea, Mumbai - formerly Bombay - is the most highly populated and wretched, the most prosperous and cosmopolitan city in India. The name "Bombay" comes from the Portuguese "Bom Bahia" which means "Beautiful Bay". The English received the city as a wedding gift from the Portuguese royal family when the Infanta Catherine of Braganca married King Charles II of England (1661). Mumbai is an industrial and trading city but is also a leading intellectual, scientific and cultural centre. Moreover, it is the capital of the Indian filmmaking industry whose studios have been baptized "Bollywood" (Bombay + Hollywood). India is the biggest producer of popular films on the planet with a thousand productions each year! These films generally include several musical and dance routines and are generally based on glitzy or totally surrealistic love stories. Kaleidoscope sketches the portrait of this place full of contrasts!
