SYNOPSIS

The monastery, founded in 739, - rebuilt in pure Baroque style after the fire of 1490 – is one of the most ancient convents in Upper Bavaria. It was here that the manuscript for the Carmina Burana was discovered, and later made famous by the music of Carl Orff (1937). Since 1967, in the magnificent setting of the Bavarian Alps, the monastery is home to an institute of social education as well as a centre for philosophical and theological studies. Kaleidoscope steps into this microcosm steeped in history – a fabulous library, works of art and... a brewery – and meets the young people who have come here from all over the world to feed their overriding interest in social action, philosophy and theology.
